Book Review: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Quinoa Cooking
I received another book from the Complete Idiot's Guide series to review. The book is called "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Quinoa Cooking". Quinoa is a superfood that contains health benefits and nutrition including protein, finer, calcium, iron, essential amino acids, and other vitamins and minerals your body needs. This superfood is also gluten-free, perfect for those who are gluten intolerant. Quinoa is actually pronounced KEEN-wah (not quinn-OH-ah) and it has been around for thousands for years. I found out about the pronunciation earlier this year when I took a cooking program.
Quinoa is a fast-cooking ingredient. As it cooks, the outer germ (or shell) breaks away from the grain and forms a little spiral-like flake, which adds to the texture. This book first gives you the inside scoop on exactly what quinoa is, where it comes from, and where you can find it. Then you'll find all the delicious and healthy recipes that you can make at home for the family. There's no photos to view in the book, but everything is quite basic and simple. The recipes are quick and easy.
The cookbook includes quinoa recipes for:
• Quick egg and griddle breakfasts
• Salads – vegetarian and meat-topped
• Sandwiches
• Soups, stews, and chilis
• Easy snacks and appetizers
• Quinoa dinner and desserts
