The Night Market

The Night Market has started couple weeks ago on May 15th and I haven't checked it out this year yet. It is a nice shopping experience of the Asian culture with a lot of stuff such as traditional crafts, fashion, snacks and drinks (the popular stuff is Bubble Tea), toys/gifts, and electronics. It starts at around 7pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays; great for a nice evening out after dinner if you have nothing to do. Admission is free. I would usually go at least once a year if there's something I want to buy. You may do some bargaining at the booth and you just might get a deal.

There are 2 locations:

Vancouver Chinatown Night Market
Dates: May 15 to Sep. 6, 2009. Every Fri., Sat. & Sun.
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Venue: Keefer St. / Main St.
(Between Main & Columbia St.)

Richmond Night Market
Dates: end of May, to end of September
Time: 7 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and to 11 p.m. on Sunday
Venue: 12631 Vulcan Way, Richmond (behind Home Depot)

The Richmond venue is the bigger one and is always packed, especially at the food stands. I think that's what most people go to the Night Market for.... it's the various yummy food!

My Cat is Destroying our Family Relationship

My cat, Momo, seems to be grabbing all the attention. I do understand that most cats are needy, but his attitude is pushing my relationship further from hubby and family. My husband have been sleeping on the couch for the past four months while I sleep on the bed and baby Brandon in the room. It was his choice to sleep on the couch outside the bedroom. I feel so apart and we don't seem to have the closeness we used to have.

Why does my husband sleep on the couch? It's because of my cat that keeps bothering us in the middle of the night. He'll jump on the night table beside the bed and would swat or scratch at my husband's head (since the table is on his side). Occasionally, he'll sleep on the bed between us, but now I have baby Brandon around. I usually nurse Brandon on the bed before sleeping. Our cat stopped bothering us whenever one of us is out in the living room. Then he'll stay put and cuddle on the sofa.

Even if we close the door and leave the cat outside in the living room, the cat would still scratch at the door non-stop. It takes a good 1/2-hour to 1-hour for him to give up. It's just not good when baby Brandon's crib is in the same room. The cat disturbs our sleep. I don't feel that this is a very good sleep habit for us.

We've tried everything: from cat-scratch deterrent sprays, vacuum, to telling him "NO" constantly. Momo is just a stubborn cat. I don't want to give him away either.

Here's a collection of my various fantasy artwork that I'd like to share. Most of these are photo-manipulations and some are digitally painted from references.

World of Warcraft: Finally reached level 80

I have finally reached level 80 in the World of Warcraft (Wrath of the Lich King) game. It took a while, since I had to look after baby Brandon all the time. My hubby and I did the same quests together.

I also finally got my Chopper mount at level 80. Two players can ride it. Check it out. Isn't it cool or what.

Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie

I have baked a fresh (not actually fresh; it's frozen) strawberry-rhubarb pie yesterday that I bought from M&M meat shops. I baked it for 45-minutes until golden brown at the top (as per the instructions). I was kinda disappointed when I didn't find any strawberries in it. Instead, it was more of strawberry sauce with rhubarb bits. Next time, I'd stick with ready-made pie from Walmart.

Smooth Away

My order on that Smooth Away hair removal product has arrived in the mail today. I originally saw it on TV (as seen on TV ads) and thought I’d try it out. They say it’s the all natural hair removal and exfoliator without the pain and no harmful chemicals. It also leaves skin soft and smooth.

I did my research online and read reviews before I actually purchased it. At first I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a rip-off. As I read the reviews, it did work for some people and didn’t work for others. Well, I bought it already and I tried it out. It’s not too bad and it worked for me. Oh, thank goodness!

It comes with a travel case, 1 large backing pad and 1 small backing pad and a pack of flex-crystal replacement pads. I think it’s kinda like the smooth sandpaper. Anyway, here are my tips for using the product properly with best results:

- make sure your skin is dry and do no put lotion prior to buffing with the pads
- buff gently on skin surface in a circular motion
- apply slight pressure, but don’t rub in too hard or else you might get a burning rash
- replace a clean pad if necessary as the skin and pad will become powdery

Through my experiment, looks like the way it works is the pad thins out the hair and dries it so that it snaps off the skin. It does leave a powder/flaky mess though. Anyone else have their opinion?

Angels and Fairies

I love fantasy art that includes fairies and angels. They are elegant creatures. There is also the dark side or the gothic style which I find interesting as well. Here's a collection of my angels and fairies artwork.

Happy Victoria Day

Happy Victoria Day long weekend to my fellow Canadian friends! The weather has been great on the weekend, but somewhat okay today monday. It got cold and later started to rain in the afternoon. I didn't have any plans with my family, but the hubby decided to drive out to Steveston Village in Richmond for lunch. We had fish & chips: Cod & Halibut with fries and coleslaw. It's a little bit pricey here though. I still find Granville Island's fish & chips tastes much better (and a few bucks cheaper).

Here's a list of restaurants in the area. Lots of changed since I've last been there couple years ago. There was no celebration for Victoria Day, but just a lot of people hanging around the area.

World of Warcraft: Flying Carpet Mount

I am just catching up with my Mage leveling experience as well as my tailoring skills. I’ve heard about that World of Warcraft (Wrath of the Lich King): Flying Carpet Mount
and just got my recipe/pattern. The mount looks pretty cool, but I just realized it’s also SLOW and didn't know there was a faster one.

Anyways, I’ll eventually build up for the Magnificent Flying Carpet:
- Binds when picked up
- Requires Level 70
- Requires Tailoring (425)
- Requires Artisan Riding

Swine Flu in BC

From what I heard from news, it is expected to be more swine flu (H1N1 virus) cases in BC. There is over 300 cases so far in Canada at this point and is still increasing. It's pretty serious and scary and I'm worried. We haven't really gone out much (unless we really need to), especially with the baby. Let's just hope those people who are affected will get cured soon and that this influenza will stop spreading.

Symptoms of Swine Flu (as like most other types of flu):
- headache
- bodyache
- sore throat
- chills
- cough
- runny nose/stuffy nose
- sneezing
- fever
- fatigue/tiredness
- diarrhea
- vomiting

Pencil Portraits

I've been cleaning out my art box and found my set of sketching pencils that I haven't used for a while now. Never have I gone back doing pencil drawings since owning my first graphics computer and Wacom Tablet. I might give away my pencil set to someone who might have more use of it than me.

Anyway, here are the pencil artworks I have collected and scanned into digital files:

Mother's Day Dinner at Kingsway Sushi

It's so exciting that this year is my own first Mother's Day I get to celebrate. I also would like to wish Happy Mother's Day to all the other new mommies out there. As a first time mom, I have experienced so much and have made it through this far with my little baby boy.

Over the past weekend, our family went out for sushi dinner. My parents, my in-laws, my hubby, Baby Brandon, and I all got together at Kingsway Sushi (located at the corner of Kingsway & Boundary) in Vancouver, BC. My parents got to try eating out at a Japanese restaurant for the first time. Though it is a bit pricey than other all-you-can-eat sushi places, I still recommend Kingsway Sushi because of their wide selection and you can order the more expensive stuff (such as fresh geoduck, sashimi, etc) as much as you want; no limits.

Oh, another good review is their fast service. As our orders were being placed, the list automatically sends to the kitchen. They take down our orders through a hand-held device; Blackberry I think? I noticed this when our waitress was taking down orders on the parent's side and while taking the orders from our side of the table, the food on their side already came. How efficient is that?

We would definitely go back again sometime.
