Frog Hollow Neighborhood House Community Connections Program

Tuesday, December 9th was the last day of the Community Connections Program I've attended at Frog Hollow Neighborhood House (where I volunteer to the community). It is a 12-week program. It was wonderful to meet a group of women who share their stories and experiences as well as having different guest speakers who came to visit the group to talk about useful information.

  • Learn about your rights and responsibilities and to understand the law
  • Get the information you need to get the job you want in your chosen field
  • Learn how to effectively manage your money
  • Make good credit and protect your finance
  • Increase your knowledge about settlement information and resources
  • Learn how to upgrade and access free adult education
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Engage in volunteer and community experience
On our last day, we had a wonderful guest speaker from Dress for Success Vancouver about the programs and services they offer. Dress For success is actually located worldwide. They help women get back to work, prepare them for job interviews, and look great by providing work clothes.

Finally, in the end, we all got to eat some pizza and learned to make a healthy salad. Thanks to Eva (the program coordinator) for sharing with us.

I also gave each of the ladies a gift (a P&G goody box), which were provided to me as a member of bzzagent.com to spread the word about the Canadian Essentials Campaign. Everyone loved it thought the items were useful. Since most of us have younger children, we were warned by one of the ladies about the colorful laundry pods and to keep them out of sight from the kids.

The second session of the Community Connections Program starts Tuesday, January 13th, 2015 from 9:30-11:30am at Frog Hollow Neighborhood House in Vancouver, BC. You can contact Eva Aboud at eva(at)froghollow.bc.ca.
