I've heard of Epsom Salt, but never knew there were so many uses. I was glad that I had the opportunity to try it out. I decided to try it for my facial and DIY in-home spa treatment. As a busy mom, I deserve some pampering once in a while.

Unlike regular salt, Epsom Salt is magnesium sulfate and has many uses in agriculture, health, and beauty. Sulfate helps form joint proteins and helps keep joints healthy, flushes toxins, and improves absorption of nutrients. Magnesium regulates more than 325 enzymes in the body, performing more functions than almost any other mineral. It helps reduce inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps.

Epsom Salt is inexpensive and offers the similar spa treatments in the comfort of your own home. I am using it for bath and face. Here are the list of benefits I've experienced:

- doesn't dry out skin
- does not smell
- really exfoliates well
- gives skin a soft feeling
- provides a relaxing bath experience






The following lists the usage with Epsom Salt along with some health & beauty tips:

1) Glowing skin exfoliating treatment: Mix 2 cups of Epsom Salt with 1/4 cup of petroleum jelly and a few drops of lavender essential oil. Use the mixture to gently scrub away dry skin patches.

2) Micro-dermabrasion Facial: Mix 1/2 tsp of Epsom Salt into cleansing cream for a deep-port cleansing. Massage gently on skin. Rinse with cool water and pat dry.

3) Bathtime Bliss: Add 2 cups of Epsom Salt to the water in a standard-sized bathtub and soak for at least 12 minutes, three times weekly.

4) Pedicure: Dissolve a half cup of Epsom Salt into two quarts of warm water. Pour the water into a container and soak your bare feet for 15-20 minutes. Massage the entire foot with Epsom Salt concentrating on the heels and angles to remove any dry, rough spots. Then, rinse your feet off with clean tap water and dry thoroughly.

5) Homemade Bath Crystals: Mix 2 cups of Epsom Salt with a few drops of fragrance to create a custom bath crystal. Add a few drops of food coloring or 1/2 tsp of glycerin if you like. Store in an air-tight container.

6) Natural Hair Volumizer: Combine equal parts warm conditioner and Epsom salt, work the mixture through your hair and leave for 20 minutes.

7) Spa treatment: After showering, massage handfuls of Epsom Salt over wet skin to exfoliate the body. It's the same treatment many upscale spas use, without the upscale price!

Epsom salt can be used to help reduce itching from mosquito bites, bee stings, mild sunburn, poison ivy, etc. It will reduce the swelling and eases the itching sensation.

Solarcaine is a great and convenient medicated spray for temporarily relieving the discomforts of burns or insect bites. Solarcaine is a registered trademark of Schering-Plough HealthCare Products Inc.

I was given the opportunity to review the Solarcaine First Aid Medicated Spray. During the time I got sunburned from being exposed to the sun too long at the park, I used the spray to relieve the pain and the burning sensation went away almost immediately. It provided a cooling relief of skin pain and itching from minor burns, cuts, and scrapes.

Since my toddler is just under 2 years, I didn't feel comfortable having him use the product. I was afraid it would sting him. Brandon only got sunburn on the tip of his ears once during this summer, but it wasn't very bad. Whenever he has cuts and scraps, I'd only use aloe gel for him. My husband and I will be using Solarcaine when we need it.

Directions from packaging: Adults and children 2 years of age and older: Clean the affected area. Spray a small amount of this product on the area 1 to 3 times daily. Do not spray directly on face. To apply to face, spray in palm of hand and gently apply. Children under 2 years of age: consult a doctor.

There are so many different types of moisturizing lotions out there and it's a bit tough choosing a favorite one that works. I recently discovered Skin MD Natural and was given the opportunity to try out their products. I received the Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion with SPF15 to review.



The skin on my hands and feet are always the most dry, especially during cold days. I've been applying the lotion once daily for about a week and do notice a difference. With continued use, the chapping and redness from skin allergies are slowly diminishing and restored my skin's moisture. It's a bit pricey, but it does prove to be effective. Skin MD Natural prevents dry skin with a silky smooth hydrating shield. Even though the lotion says for face, it makes my face feel oily and shiny-looking so I only use for arms and legs and body.

It's nice that it is fragrance-free (just only a slight scent of the sunscreen) since I am quite sensitive to strong-smelling perfumed lotions. I also like that the Skin MD lotion is safe for children to use, especially for my 2-year-old son. He has sensitive skin and has eczema. I wasn't sure if the lotion would give him a reaction, but it's been working quite well.



The Lotion wasn't too runny. I'm not a fan of runny kind. It was actually creamy and can be easily applied without dripping. It's also non-greasy and absorbs quickly. The 4oz bottle was a great size to put in my bag for on-the-go and/or for traveling.
