Filtering Blue Light from Digital Devices with Spektrum Glasses

I remember not too long ago, there was an article about the dangers of blue light emitting from electronics such as smartphones and computers at night. I learned that it's really bad for your eyes and can lead to sleep problems and other increased health risks. In our generation and as technology have grown, it seems many of us can't put our mobile devices aside. When I'm working, I'm at the computer most of the day. And it has become a habit that I check my emails or messages or browse the web before going to bed.

WHAT IS BLUE LIGHT?

Blue light, which is part of the visible light spectrum, reaches deeper into the eye and its cumulative effect can cause damage to the retina. Furthermore, in certain wavelengths, blue light is implicated in the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR EYES?

I was recently introduced to Spektrum Glasses. Spektrum Glasses that have anti-blue light lenses that help prevent macular degeneration, dry and sore eyes and loss of sleep.  There is a yellow tint on the lenses. The more yellow, the more protection it has.  It contains a filter for the excess blue light that we are exposed to nowadays, given the the rising use of computers, cell phones etc. The light throws off the biological clock and suppresses melatonin.

I thought I'd give this a try. I received one that is 40% blue light blocking as well as the 97% blue light blocking glasses. I like the flexible frame and the anti-glare. I'm not used to seeing everything yellowish, so I am slowly getting used to this. I don't wear it all the time. Because of my type of work (design and photography), sometimes I need to see the real color. I use the 40% blocking for the computer when I'm working online during the day and at night I use the 97% blocking when I'm browsing my smartphone in the dark just before going to bed.

The glasses are unisex and fits most people. These anti-blue light glasses are perfect for kids too. My son actually wears them.

WHERE TO BUY: Blue light blocking glasses can be purchased online at www.spektrumglasses.com. It comes with a case and a cleaning cloth.
