Bold Lips Are In - Get the Look from Skinn Cosmetics' Dimitri James

Go Big and Go Bold
The “How To” on Red Lips from Dimitri James

It’s the return of the bold lip for fall 2013. This classic look that can bring you from day to night reappears time and time again. With a little help from Dimitri James, celebrity makeup artist and the brains behind Skinn Cosmetics, here’s how you can wear and update this look just in time for the party season.

No matter your style, edgy, ethereal or retro, this look can be tailored just for you with these six quick and easy steps.

To get this look get your hands on some skin primer, foundation or CC cream, false eye lashes, waterproof mascara and eyeliner (liquid or gel), and lipstick in a color that you love to wear….time to get started!

Step 1: Prep

Make sure your face is clean and fresh it’s important to have clean canvas for your work of art! Apply a primer all over the face. Try Skinn’s Orchid Gel Mattifying Primer complete with Orchid Extract that will neutralize orange and green tones in the skin so the contrast between skin tone, hair color and a vibrant lip won’t look hard or conflicting.

Step 2: Coverage

Next, apply a quality satin finish foundation or CC cream. Skinn’s Collagenesis Intellitint CC Cream is perfect because it recreates the color, texture and tone so skin appears smooth and flawless. Remember less is more, you want to enhance your features, not cover them up.

Step 3: Eyes wide open

Attach false eyelashes to your upper lids, this will add more volume to your own. Make sure to curl them together so that they look natural using Skinn’s No damage lash curler. If you already have long eyelashes maybe add some individual lashes to the corner of your eyes to achieve this look.

Step 4: Blend

Now use a liquid or gel liner on your upper lash line to create that slick look…beware of shaky hands! Finish your eyes with a coat of mascara .

Step 5: Exfoliate

This step is important! Velvet or matte finish lipsticks require a smooth surface as they accentuate any dryness. Use a good sugar scrub for lips like Skinn’s Surger lips polishing scrub to remove any dry flakes.

Step 6: The cherry on top

Finally line the lips with a lip liner similar to the color you are wearing and apply a matte velvet lipstick to lips in a blue-based red or pink-red shade like Skinn’s Raspberry Sugar or Velvet Brownie. Lastly blend the lipstick out to the liner using Skinn’s Lip Brush.

And there you go!
