CBC Stars Meet the Public and Hope to Set New Fundraising Records


VANCOUVER, British ColumbiaCBC/Radio-Canada is pleased to announce the details around the 29th annual Open House and Food Bank Day, where the public is welcomed to the Vancouver Broadcast Centre to raise funds for the Food Banks of B.C. on December 4, 2015. Visitors can take part in newsroom tours, live broadcasts, and meet their favourite local and national CBC personalities.

"It is one of the most enjoyable days of the year at CBC Vancouver," says Johnny Michel, senior managing director of CBC British Columbia and Alberta. "We love welcoming our audiences to their local CBC, but more importantly we love being part of an amazing day of raising awareness and funds that includes more than $2.5 million dollars for B.C. Food Banks in the past few years alone."

CBC Vancouver's Broadcast Centre at 700 Hamilton Street has thousands of people attend the one-day Open House and Food Bank Day. This year, local CBC Vancouver personalities Andrew Chang, Rick Cluff, Gloria Macarenko, Sheryl MacKay and Stephen Quinn will be joined by some of CBC's biggest network personalities.

CBC Marketplace's Erica Johnson, CBC News Now’s Ian Hanomansing and Kids' CBC lovable mascots Daniel Tiger, Napkin Man, and Super WHY! will be on site meeting the public and participating in the live broadcasts.

Rick Cluff, host of The Early Edition, starts off the day off at 5:10am with doors to Studio 700 opening at 6:00am. There will be timeless performances by Chor Leoni and Company B. From 12–3pm, Gloria Macarenko of B.C. Almanac and Sheryl MacKay, host of North by Northwest, team up to present musical guests Van Django. On The Coast’s Stephen Quinn completes the live radio broadcast experience from 3–6pm, with special performances by Rich Hope and Craig Northey. There will also be visit from On The Coast regulars including beer columnist Rebecca Wyman, wine expert Barb ​Philip and movie reviewer Katherine Monk.

Self-guided tours take place from 8am – 5pm with a behind the scenes look at the CBC Vancouver integrated newsroom, including CBC's staff and on-air personalities to meet along the way. Food Bank volunteers will be on site accepting cash donations.
